Modern Day
Dog Breeding
Certain breeds of dogs like English bulldog’s, French bulldog’s, American bully’s, Dogue de Bordeaux, and pug’s are usually not available to mate naturally. And in a lot of cases when there is a big comparison in size or weight, these breeds struggle most-often to breed naturally. Through our own experience, we are witnessing the majority of stud owners now offering AI only. Why AI only? Maybe just for ease, or for the safety of their dog and the breed.
Optimal Breeding with AI
It’s to be expected in some breeds due to their abnormalities especially the English Bulldog, but now in today’s date many other dog breeds are making the most of the AI benefits of dog breeding. Many of these types of breeds mentioned rely on canine fertility clinic services to ensure they breed and give birth to the biggest litter possible with optimal sperm and mate timing.
Smart K9 Fertility Clinic offers dog breeding clinical services to ensure your female dog (bitch) gets pregnant and gives birth to healthy puppies. We can ensure your male dog is firing on all cylinders too with our canine semen analysis. We have a variety of services which you will find at the bottom of this page to help you in any way we can dog breeding. But meanwhile we will learn you about everything else, why we do it and what we do it for.
How can we help?
Our staff have both professional and personal experience with breeding, and all the events that can easily unfold when dog breeding. It comes with experience. Understanding canine reproduction usually seems confusing to many people, but with the right guidance, you can be sure of successful breeding of your dogs.
The priority of dog breeding is meant to ensure that your bitch produces healthy and happy puppies, with minimal complications for mum and pups if not any in a perfect world. But we don’t live in a perfect world so there is quite a lot we need to ensure through all stages for success.
Our process of Breeding Dogs
Starting with a healthy male and female pre-planned and compatible to mate, (our stud select service solves all issues which you could be faced with finding the perfect male). The success of the mating requires planning, and what we call “optimal breed timing”. The most accurate method for this is progesterone ovulation testing. We frequently analyse minimal blood samples in a quick and effective, pain free way to find out the best time to mate. Typically AI mating after ovulation when the eggs are ready for fertilisation. When the eggs are first released their too ripe and not ready for the semen introduction so we typically mate twice 1-2 days after ovulation.
We start weaning on to a puppy food for our females straight away for extra nutrients and to ensure a quality diet and nutrition with structured levels of increments to aid pregnancy and the happiness of the female and puppies. Confirmation of pregnancy is a simple process after 28 days from mating using our ultrasound scanning service. After confirmation is when the increments in food commence.
Puppy Whelping Services
Prolactin can be given to establish milk flow in a bitch. The first two weeks are critical and require 24/7 care and feeding taking into consideration the health, well being and growth of each pup. Would you like healthy pups? Sometimes we need to ensure each puppy a good feed consistently every two hours if possible. Worming treatment needs to start after two weeks of age followed shortly after by flea treatment at manufacturers set regular intervals. After three weeks we start weaning on to sloppy solids to start building the puppies up and removing stress of the female aiding a quicker recovery. Whilst were busy in all the action weaning we may need to also consider potential homes for the pups. Yet we are tasked with so many obstacles before and after this point. It can be stressful raising puppies unless you’re physically and mentally prepared.
